It’s Pride month, and you know what that means- RAINBOW EVERYTHING! FIG talks about being one-month allies. And every year, the public gets better and better about calling out companies who use PRIDE for performance only.
This year, we want to talk about staying in your lane. Specifically, companies that choose to jump on the Pride bandwagon to prove they’re inclusive (even if they’re not) and supportive (even though they do nothing beneficial for the community).
Businesses exist to make money and solve problems. Unless they are making legitimate deals with members of the LGBTQ+ community AND those deals align with the company’s values, then companies need to hop OFF the bandwagon and stay in their lane.
While companies may think acknowledging = supporting, it’s NOT okay to make money off this community if your culture, messaging, and donations do not align.
So the lesson here is, if you’re not actually looking to make a difference in the LGBTQ+ community, then stay in your lane during Pride month.
