The Problem with Belonging

You have probably heard of DEIB, “diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.” While most DEI companies agree with the belonging part, at FIG, we think that the only B in the workplace should be business. Businesses exist to solve problems and make a profit - belonging is a sure way to disrupt one, if not both.

Many times belonging gets confused with inclusion or equity. Companies should be more aware of their responsibilities to create a safe working environment. Leaders should be accountable for their actions. Employees be given fair wages and treated with respect.

Inclusion and equity make sense for a company. Belonging doesn't. Occasionally employees need to be let go, which can be confusing. We don’t fire family. Good or bad, they’re still family. A business cannot operate without boundaries. Instead of jumping on whatever trend wagon is on the tracks, focus on creating inclusion.
